What questions are frequently asked about TeacherReady?

These are the top ten questions asked about TeacherReady™. If your question is not answered in this list, please take a look at our complete list of frequently asked questions or contact the ICL office.

How do I apply to the TeacherReady™ program?
To apply to the TeacherReady™ program, you will need to submit an admission form, a copy of your college transcripts indicting that a Bachelor’s Degree has been awarded, and an admission fee of $15.00. Your information will not be reviewed for consideration to the program until all information is received by the ICL office.

When is the deadline for admissions to the program?
Deadline for the:
January cohort is December 1.
July cohort is June 1.
October cohort is September 1.

What if a cohort is full? Does my admissions form get moved to the next cohort?
If more than 25 students are interested in a cohort, we will open additional sections to accommodate the need of our students.

Do I have to go to Pensacola, Florida for any reason during the TeacherReady™ program?
No. All the instruction is delivered online through the University of West Florida's e-learning system. There will be no reason for you to come to campus during the TeacherReady™ program.

How long are the units in the TeacherReady™ program?
Each unit of the TeacherReady™ program is approximately four to six weeks long. The length of each unit varies depending on the content of the unit.

Can I work and participate in the TeacherReady™ program?
Yes. The TeacherReady™ program was designed with working students in mind. There is never any set time that you have to be in the e-learning system. Course information and instruction is available to students 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Most of the field experiences can be completed in about an hour. You can complete these assignments before work, during lunch breaks, or after work depending on your schedule.

Do I have to be online at any particular time for instruction?
No. There are no set times that you have to be in the e-learning system to participate in online discussions. Course information is available to students 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Is financial aid available?
This program is not eligible for Stafford Loans or Pell Grants because it is a continuing education program. You can apply for a Continuing Education Loan through Sallie Mae at http://www.salliemae.com/get_student_loan/find_student_loan/training_loans/continuing_ed. If you are a Florida resident, you can apply for the Florida Work Experience Program at http://www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org/SSFAD/factsheets/FWEP.htm. Military personnel and their spouses can receive information about financial aid at http://www.proudtoserveagain.com.

If you plan to teach in an elementary or secondary school that serves low-income families, you may be interested eligible for the TEACH grant program. For more information about this grant, visit http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/TEACH.jsp.

What other states are reciprocal with the state of Florida?
The state of Florida is reciprocal with 41 other states for teaching certification. Twenty-three of these states currently accept alternative certification pathways to becoming a teacher. How much does the program cost?
Total instructional cost is $3,745 (Seven units of instruction @ $535.00 each)
Statement of Eligibility $75.00 (Additional cost if certified in multiple subject areas)
Books $225.00
Fingerprinting varies per school district.
Certification Testing $225.00 (Each test is $75.00. You will need to take the Professional Knowledge, General Knowledge, and Subject Area Exams)
