About the Program
How does TeacherReady™ work?
The TeacherReady™ program was designed with working students in mind. All instruction is delivered online through the University of West Florida e-learning system, and you can set your own schedule! There is never a set time that you have to be online to participate in the assignments because course information is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. As you complete assignments, you will receive personalized, specific feedback from a TeacherReady™ instructor to help improve your teaching practices.
While you gain valuable conceptual and foundational knowledge of teaching, you will be gaining practical experience by participating in face-to-face field experiences in a classroom. You will be placed with a mentor teacher in your local community where you will spend approximately 150 hours observing, substituting, and interviewing. Most field experiences can be completed in one hour and can be done during your lunch break, before work, after work, or whenever your schedule allows. The final field experience will be teaching five consecutive days in your mentor's classroom.
What will I learn in TeacherReady™?
You will participate in seven units of instruction, which answer the following questions:
- Unit 1: What do I need to know to get ready for the first days of school?
- Unit 2: Who are my students?
- Unit 3: How do my students learn?
- Unit 4: How do I know when my students learn?
- Unit 5: How do I organize to provide my students with the maximum learning situation?
- Unit 6: How do I communicate with students, parents, faculty, and other educators?
- Unit 7: What are some current issues in education?
Each unit is approximately 4-6 weeks in duration; and unit activities include classroom scenarios, readings, lessons, activities, field experiences, online resources, and assessments.
What are the requirements for successfully completing TeacherReady™?
You will have successfully completed the TeacherReady™ program when you have
- Completed all assignments and field experiences
- Passed the three state teacher certification tests
Once you complete the program requirements, you will submit your certification test scores results to the ICL office, and your forms will be submitted to the Florida Certification Office for review.
What is the cost of TeacherReady™?
The cost of each instructional unit is $535 or $3,745 for all seven units. Each unit is paid for separately, and payment is due one week after the start of each unit. Additional costs include fingerprinting fees, books/materials, testing fees, and Statement of Eligibility application fees.
Can I obtain college credit for completing TeacherReady™?
The Institute for Innovative Community Learning has an agreement with the University of West Florida (UWF) to accept twelve credit hours into the online, comprehensive Master’s of Education Degree at UWF.
